Technology Development in Core Facilities
Establishment of innovations in the routine work of the Core Facility
The goal of this funding instrument is to enable technology development within the Core Facilities. This is to ensure that the Core Facilities can map state-of-the-art and innovative, novel methods. The innovations that are established within the framework of this project-related scientific work are then to be incorporated into the routine work of the Core Facility.
For who?
Core Facilities (represented by their managers and scientific directors) as well as university professors and working group leaders together with one or more Core Facilities are eligible to apply.
A proposal must be submitted jointly by at least two Core Facilities or at least one Core Facility and one Research Group.

Scientific or technical qualification of the person who will carry out the project.
Award Criteria
- The person who will perform the technology development under this project must already be named at the time of application.
- Approved funds in funding instrument 9 may only be used for the specific purpose.
Applications are submitted every two years at the March BONFOR meeting (next deadline march 2025). - All applications must be submitted in accordance with the specified deadlines. Only one application will be approved every two years.
- For the duration of the project work, a workplace must be secured for the implementation of the project in the Core Facility and/or the participating working group.
- Evaluation criteria
The scientific quality of the project is a central criteria for the evaluation of the application. The applicants should also convincingly demonstrate the need for the technological development to be established, as this is to be offered as a service of the Core Facility once it has been established.
Scientific or technical qualification of the person who will carry out the project. - The application will be evaluated by the BONFOR Commission and two external reviewers.

Required Documents
The following documents are required for your application:
- Project application (see template)
- Summary of the research project
- Curriculum vitae with list of publications of the scientist(s) to be recruited and of the applicant(s)
- Statement on the planned career path of the scientist to be hired and how the planned position can be used for this purpose. Complete description of the research project, which includes the following points: Explanation of the new technique (and differentiation from existing methods) and explanation of the need for the new technique at the University of Bonn.
Detailed work program with defined/verifiable milestones, scheduling, and assignment of work steps to individual work groups/core facilities.
Description of the services that can be offered by the participating Core Facility (ideally with details of other potential users). - Overview of financial requirements (material resources)
- Signed guidelines for the use of BONFOR funds.
- Declaration Bonfor-applicant
- Confirmation from the Core Facility Scientific Manager that a workspace will be made available (and, if applicable, a commitment from someone to cover the missing in-kind resources).
- Workplace Agreement
