PD Dr. Andreas Zietzer

PD Dr. Andreas Zietzer studied medicine at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where he finished his translational doctorate in 2017. In 2016, he transitioned to the Heart Center at the University Hospital Bonn to join the BONFOR program there. His early post-doctoral research focused on endothelial regeneration and the cardiovascular impact of kidney disease, securing funding from the German Society of Cardiology. In 2020, PD Dr. Zietzer received a grant from the Ernst & Bertha Grimmke Foundation to investigate ceramide metabolism in aortic diseases, allowing him to establish an independent research group. Following initial publications on the function of non-coding RNAs in the cardiovascular context of chronic kidney disease, he further developed this area and ultimately secured funding from the German Research Foundation, bevor completing his habilitation in January 2024 Clinically, PD Dr. Zietzer specialized in cardiac rhythmology, completing his training as an invasive electrophysiologist in August 2024. He has been performing cardiac ablation procedures as a consultant in cardiology since January 2025. As the head of the "Digital Cardiology" scientific working group, PD Dr. Zietzer serves as the local cardiology lead for the ACRIBiS project and was the principal investigator of the CHANGE study—a multicenter trial for secondary prevention in patients with chronic coronary syndrome using a smartphone application.
