Networking and exchange - the ACCENT program retreat Networking and exchange - the ACCENT program retreat

On January 30 and 31, 2025, the first internal retreat of the Bonn ACCENT program for Advanced Clinician Scientists took place at the Catholic Social Institute in Siegburg.

The scholarship holders from the first two funding rounds of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and an associate from the ImmunoSensation² Cluster of Excellence came together to exchange ideas and further develop the joint program. The group was joined by a scholarship holder from the Würzburg INTERACT program, one of eight ACS locations across Germany. He is currently spending six months in Bonn and is enriching the exchange with new perspectives.

Science speed dating provided an ideal opportunity to get to know new research approaches, further develop innovative ideas and deepen collaboration. The participants agreed that personal, intensive exchange is an essential element of the ACS programs. Only through networking and interdisciplinary cooperation can clinician scientists be sustainably strengthened in their research and sustainably strengthen programs of this kind.

The retreat was rounded off with a seminar on time management for researchers, which provided valuable impetus for the efficient organization of scientific and clinical activities.

About the ACCENT program

ACCENT (Advanced Clinician Scientist Program Bonn) was approved by the BMBF in 2022 to specifically support clinically and scientifically active physicians through protected research time and optimal framework conditions. The program enables participants to invest at least 50% of their working time in research over a period of up to six years.

In addition to protected research time, the fellows benefit from a comprehensive clinical-scientific mentoring and coaching program as well as a qualification program with relevant content for an academic career. In addition, cross-location Advanced Clinician Scientist network meetings are organized to further strengthen interdisciplinary exchange.

This spring, the scholarship holders of the 3rd funding round of the BMBF will start their funding.
