General Information on the Appointment Process

Appointments are realized in close cooperation with the University of Bonn and the University Hospital according to common strategic goals.

Since a large number of appointment procedures are processed in parallel at our faculty, standardised process steps have been established. The entire procedure is accompanied by mandatory appointment officers, who must submit a written report to the rectorate on the formal correctness of the procedure.

Applications must be submitted electronically in German and / or English. The short application forms are constantly updated in the dean's office for the areas of research, teaching and patient care. Prior to their mock lectures, the candidates are brought into contact with relevant research groups and clinical actors at the Bonn location in the form of visits. If applicable, this is followed by on-site visits at the candidates' current work place by the appointment committee.

The applications of selected candidates are sent in unranked order to reviewers. They draw up a comparative expert opinion based on a catalogue of criteria adapted for the appointment procedure. In special cases (ad personal appointment of excellent candidates, professorships within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence, retention negotiations), adapted appointment procedures are possible. However, these require individual consultation with the Rectorate and the involvement of a university committee for special appointment procedures, which is composed of representatives of all faculties for quality assurance.

For appointed professors (as well as for newly recruited young scientists with their own research group), the University of Bonn has a Dual Career Program, which is intended to make it easier to successfully combine career and partnership / family in individual cases. The search for a suitable position for the partner involves the University of Bonn and the University Hospital as well as external partners from science and industry.

There are also offers for language courses as well as consulting offers for further education (incl. check of application documents) and the development of individual career strategies. This includes, among others, so called tenure track procedures. The faculty and the hospital, with the involvement of the Equal Opportunity Office, provide all necessary assistance in the application of suitable persons with proven severe disabilities and persons equivalent to them.
