Vice Dean's Office for Sustainability of the Faculty of Medicine

At the Faculty of Medicine, one of seven faculties at the University of Bonn, sustainability is a key focus across all areas: research, teaching, patient care, and administration. The Vice Dean's Office for Sustainability, situated within the Medical Dean's Office, serves as the central coordinating and management unit for sustainability efforts at the Faculty of Medicine. It also acts as a vital interface between the university and the UKB (University Hospital Bonn).

In addition to driving interdisciplinary sustainability projects and fostering a more sustainable daily work culture within the Medical Dean's Office, the Vice Dean's Office for Sustainability actively works to expand its network. This ongoing development supports a holistic approach to sustainability. Efforts include establishing various committees dedicated to addressing sustainability-related issues.

Guidelines and handouts

The Department of International Affairs and the Institute of Geography at Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität have shared their guidelines on international cooperation and reducing the digital carbon footprint to support sustainable practices in daily life. These resources not only assist members of the University of Bonn in adopting more sustainable behaviors but also encourage everyone to make environmentally friendly choices, helping to ensure that "unsustainable actions" become the exception.

To further advance the eco-friendly transformation at the Faculty of Medicine and the UKB, you can also download a practical handout with tips for organizing everyday office activities and event management in a more sustainable way.

Game: "City - Country - Green"

Sustainability is fun! Spend your break interactively and play "Stadt, Land, Grün" with your colleagues and fellow students! Get into conversation and exchange ideas about climate protection organizations in your area, brainstorm about regional food or discuss solutions for behaviors that are perhaps not quite so environmentally friendly. Good luck!

Disinfectants: sustainable & germ-free through everyday life

Whether during a hospital operation, after a doctor’s appointment, or simply when using the restroom at the office, library, or after a bus ride—disinfectants help us stay as germ-free as possible throughout the day. However, conventional disinfectants are often not environmentally friendly, which inspired us to seek a more sustainable alternative.

As part of Sustainability Day at the University of Bonn, students had the opportunity to create their own eco-friendly disinfectant in a simple and accessible way.

You can download the recipe, step-by-step instructions, and additional information about this sustainable disinfectant here. Have fun making your own!
