Dr. med. Taraneh Ebrahimi
Dr. Taraneh Ebrahimi is a resident at the Center for Neurology, focusing on neurovascular research.
In her study, “CHEF - Characterization of Cognitive Impairment in Heart Failure,” participants with chronic heart failure and newly diagnosed acute heart failure are examined for cognitive disorders. The study is conducted in collaboration with the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic II of the University Hospital Bonn.
Recent studies indicated that individuals with heart failure are considerably more likely to experience cognitive deficits and are at an increased risk of developing dementia. The presence of cognitive impairment is a negative prognostic factor for heart failure and leads to higher rates of rehospitalization and mortality. Despite its significant clinical importance, cognitive impairments in this cohort are often underdiagnosed.
The goals of our study are to characterise cognitive profiles in participants with heart failure and to correlate them with blood biomarkers and imaging features. Our aim is to investigate indicators and predictors of cognitive decline to improve early detection and treatment in the long term.
The study will examine the relationships between cardiological assessments (ECG, echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, and cardiac MRI), brain imaging, blood biomarker profiles, and performance in memory, language, attention, and concentration tasks.
